Economic Participation by Hilary Lips in Women Rights Resources Directory

One of the things that I noted with pleasure about New Zealand is that both your prime minister and opposition leader are women. Introduction There are not many countries that can boast a head of state who is female, and that indeed is one of the concerns underlying my talk today. We are still, after all these years, thrilled to encounter women in positions of high achievement, influence and power. We are thrilled because it continues to be unusual to find women in such positions. Despite the fact that, as an oftencited statistic holds, women do twothirds of the worlds work, their achievements are very often invisible. Women work hard, but they often receive little credit for their accomplishments. Still rarely relative to men do they reach highvisibility positions of achievement and leadership.
